Birmingham New Street is a major hub of Britain's railway system, with routes to London, the North-East, the North West, Scotland, Wales, the South West, the South Coast and the East of England. Many local services serving the West Midlands also use New Street. Currently 1.71 million passengers use New Street each year.
It has 12 through platforms (each sub-divided into A and B sections), one bay platform, two dock platforms, three through sidings and two engine sidings. The simulation area contains the station itself and the complex series of junctions just outside it. Proof House and Grand Junctions reflect the layout now left after the major remodelling in 2000 and the station itself reflects the post-2004 layout.
